Grey receives his appointment to Wyrmouth. This is the beginning of the shipboard story, not a later promotion.
The appointment puts Grey aboard under Roake. The separate private packet remains in Grey’s keeping.

Portsmouth Harbour
4 March 1798
Wyrmouth makes ready and leaves the harbour. The shore begins to fall astern.
Grey has a receiving account and his own copied particulars. An entry on paper still requires comparison with the stores.

Off the Dorset coast
6 March 1798
The chapter places Wyrmouth in the English Channel off Dorset. The map point identifies a general area, not a logged fix.
Material recovered aboard adds to the papers already in Grey’s keeping. The exhibit does not plot an invented exact position for the recovery.

Western Approaches to the Strait
7 to 14 March 1798
After the Western Approaches, the narrative reaches the mouth of the Mediterranean on 14 March. Wyrmouth passes without putting in at Gibraltar.
Grey opens the private packet at the instructed threshold. He records the date and keeps the wrapper and broken seal.

Off Toulon
18 March 1798
Wyrmouth stays offshore west of Cap Sicié. A trading tartane carries the party into Toulon. Do not read the landward dot as the frigate entering the enemy harbour.
Grey’s party seeks the companion text. The journey ashore and the frigate’s position are separate.

Passage towards Malta
19 to 28 March 1798
Wyrmouth sails from the Toulon passage towards Malta, with an easterly wind delaying part of the crossing. This line is only a route summary.
The recovered texts remain aboard. Separate accounts of the shore visit do not say the same thing.

Valletta, first arrival
28 March 1798
Wyrmouth enters Grand Harbour in the March sequence and anchors beneath the fortifications.
Receiving papers and physical supplies are checked. Keep a corrected entry distinct from an explanation of who caused it.

South-east of Malta
29 March to 1 April 1798
The chapter places Wyrmouth at sea south-east of Malta. Illness and the stores are part of the passage.
The ship’s own record continues; an adverse event is not evidence of every proposed cause.

Off Cape Passaro
2 April 1798
The chapter moves the action off Cape Passaro. This stage includes late Book One developments.
An official warrant has arrived. Its arrival, its wording and what it proves remain different questions.

Malta, return visit
18 April 1798
Wyrmouth returns to Malta. The shore party goes to the quarantine quay. Do not merge this visit with the March arrival.
New material from this visit later travels alongside, not in place of, the earlier evidence.

Gibraltar Roadstead
2 May 1798
Wyrmouth reaches the roadstead after the westward passage.
The accounts have accumulated. At this stage their eventual reception in England has not yet been established.

3 May 1798
Wyrmouth and the packet party no longer follow exactly the same passage. The short separate line is schematic, not a timed reconstruction of the boats.
The cylinder and party transfer to Santa Marta. Freja is the intended onward carrier. Do not turn the plan into confirmed arrival before the later report.

Spithead
27 May 1798
Wyrmouth reaches Spithead. The passage north has taken twenty-four days.
The chapter reports that Freja reached England four days earlier. Falmouth was her stated destination; the text here confirms England, not a new precise landfall fix.

Sources and limits of the chart
Story dates and locations follow the supplied Book One, Kindle Revision 3, chapter headings and the passages around the packet transfers. In particular, Wyrmouth remains offshore at Toulon; the March and April Malta visits are separate; and a planned carrier is not treated as a witnessed delivery.
Background coastlines are simplified from Natural Earth’s public-domain low-resolution dataset. Borders and modern political labels are omitted. Small islands may be represented only by a location marker at this scale. No historical chart image has been copied.
